2015: Year of Wearables?

2015: Year of Wearables?“Lots of interest, a lot of caution, and not much worth buying…yet. This is what we saw in wearables at CES [January 2014]”, noted CNET on wearable technology trends.

Almost a year later, Apple jumped into the space with their watch (USD 349) and the producers of Razer Nabu (USD 78) can’t meet demand. It sold out in 15 minutes on December 2.

While the new technology is interesting and claims to help motivate weight loss, health monitoring and facilitate instant communication/updates (because a mobile phone is never in reach).

It seems that 2015 may bring more of the same. Many expect the second-coming of the Apple watch to flop and the industry in general to remain confused for the coming years but eventually wearables will be a daily essential. For now the industry is growing through their awkward stage — perhaps akin to 8-tracks.

Expect many new gadgets vying for space on your wrists (Jawbone, FitBit, Pebble Steel, Martian, Meta, LG, Intel…) or attention from your eyes (Google Glass, Oculus Rift, Lumus, GlassUp) next year.

But don’t go crazy searching for a “must-have, stable product” apparently nothing exists. Plua “apps, services, technology and standards have yet to be defined or universally established.”
