iPhone’s new rival?

iPhone’s new rival?

Not even close!  But the BlackBerry is looking a lot better after Porsche Desgin and Research in Motion got together to create the sleek steel and leather BlackBerry Porsche P’9981.

RIM is no longer the ‘secure’ corporate smartphone go-to option given the recent global outage. They have also long lagged as an industry innovator and opted instead to follow trend as many tech companies have found success in partnering with luxury auto-makers such as Asus with Lamborghini and Acer with Ferrari.

The P’9981 is expected to hit shelves in time for the holidays for an “anticipated” cost of $2000.

So how does it compare to the new iPhone 4S? Well, the P’9981 is not even in the same league with only 8 GB of hard-drive memory, a 1.2 GHz processor, as well as Dual-Band Wi-Fi capabilities and offering 720p HD video. These specs are more on par with the earlier generation iPhone 4 which is still the better buy at $549 unlocked without a contract.

But, Apple launched on October 28 the new iPhone 4S unlocked for €659 (16GB), €779 (32GB) and €899 (64GB) in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Plus an Apple Store rep confirmed to HEDGEAnswers that the unlocked phones will be available in the US sometime in November at a price 50% less than the expected P’9981.
