URBAN BUZZ

Urban buzzIt appears urbanites can save the world by making at-home honey.

Philips has designed the slickest, modern an at-home Urban Beehive, to harvest fresh honey directly from a window. Described to be dummy-proof and looks so good your coop shouldn’t balk.

All you have to do is cut a small hole in a window pane, the Urbanist explains, and the “pod-like hive attaches to” the hole. “Once affixed, the glass covered pod on the inside of the window would allow you to peer into the hive while the white entryway on the outside… allows the bees the freedom [to] come and go.” If the Discovery Channel view isn’t enough remember a slight yank at your whim drops down the freshest honey.

FastCoDesign notes that beekeeping is not legal everywhere but don’t fret New York is bee-friendly – the city leagalized the making of honey in 2010 and you can also find classes to show you how. But get this, there is a waiting list, classes are already sold-out at York Prep by the NYC Beekeeping Association.

If a bee’s sting could be life-threatening to you but you still want to keep “these little heroes buzzing” see Häagen-Dazs explain how you can do your part.
